Dearest Śrīla Prabhupāda,
Please accept my humble obeisances at the dust of your lotus feet. All glories to your good self
and all glories to your ISKCON movement.
2025 is a special year for Mauritius. It marks the fiftieth anniversary of your setting your lotus
feet on Mauritian soil, on October 1, 1975. Your granddisciples and well-wishers will be commem-
orating this transcendental event.
As an offering I would like to present to you a report of what is going on in the Mauritius yātrā
in terms of preaching fifty years after your arrival.
Book distribution is most pleasing to you, Śrīla Prabhupāda. For your pleasure, the Mauritian
yātrā distributed about 53,500 books in the last two years. And in 2024, Mauritius came out first
in Africa in the Bhadra Pūrṇimā campaign (181 out of 485 Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam sets distributed) as
well as in the Live to Give campaign ( 6,744 out of the 17,167 Bhagavad-gītās distributed). We have
about fifty devotees engaged in book distribution sevā.
We currently have five temples and nine preaching centers. There is regular Deity worship
taking place in eight of them. Thirty-two new outfits were offered to the Deities in 2024. We have
a congregation of between 10–15,000 and about 800 initiated devotees. In 2024, we had four
devotees receiving first initiation and nine receiving second initiation.
Food-for-Life distributed over 50,000 plates of prasādam in 2024. Also, ISKCON owns three
cows and one bull in Mauritius.
We have started a fledging Devotee Care system, with a staff of about twenty-five to take care of
your devotees. We also have at least five regular Sunday schools operating, with a staff of twenty-
three devotees and 171 students. We shall put in the effort to expand on this, as training children
in Kṛṣṇa consciousness is a priority, as you say in your Bhāgavatam purports. We have Bhakti-
sādacāra and Bhakti-śāstrī courses ongoing. Online Bhagavad-gītā and Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam courses
are also conducted for newer audiences.
Devotees here are pretty much into distributing the holy names on the streets. Last year we had
seven Ratha-yātrās, and each week we have at least three or four regular harināma parties in differ-
ent locations on the island.
Among the major projects we are working on is the completion of the new temple for Śrī Śrī
Rādhā-Golokānanda, which is right in the center of the island. This will be the biggest temple
complex in the region. Two new temples that were inaugurated – New Nīlācala-dhāma, with
beautiful Jagannātha, Baladeva, and Subhadrā deities, and the magnificent Śrī Śrī Pañca-tattva
Mandir extension both in the north of the island. The new Bambous preaching center is a small
yet vibrant place, with ongoing preaching programs. At least two preaching centers are in the
pipeline – The Gita Center at Rose Belle, and another one at Poudre D’Or. We are very grateful to
the devotees taking responsibility for the different projects.
Our priority for 2025 is a leadership training program, which we have already started working
on with the leadership team in the country.
On this auspicious occasion of your 129th Vyāsa-pūjā, we pray that you will be extra merciful to
the Mauritian yātrā and inspire us to work cooperatively to spread Kṛṣṇa consciousness across the
island. We would like the Mauritian public to see ISKCON as a unified and impactful movement.
We pray that the humble attempts at serving your mission will be pleasing to you.
Your granddisciple,
Harideva Dāsa,
on behalf of the Mauritius yātrā
