Jaitra dāsa (London - Soho Street - United Kingdom)

Dear Guru Mahārāja

Please accept my humble obeisances!

All glories to Śrīla Prabhupāda!

All glories to you on this most auspicious day of your Vyāsa-pūjā 2022

Śrīla Prabhupāda Lecture on SB 6.1.6 -- Los Angeles, January 3, 1970:

“Vaiṣṇava means godly person. So, every godly person, he thinks for others. “Oh, people are suffering for want of knowledge, for want of God consciousness, for want of Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Oh, let me do some service. Let me enlighten them so that they may be happy.” Therefore, we offer our obeisances to the Vaiṣṇavas: Vāñchā-kalpa-tarubhyaś ca kṛpā-sindhubhya eva ca. Vāñchā-kalpa-taru means that “My dear devotee, you are just like a desire tree. Whatever I desire from you, you fulfill.” Vāñchā-kalpa-tarubhyaś ca kṛpā-sindhubhya eva ca. Kṛpā means mercy. “You are the ocean of mercy.” And patitānāṁ pāvanebhyo, “And you are deliverer of the fallen souls. Therefore, I offer my obeisances unto you.” It is very nice to offer respect to a godly person. Is described very nicely. Why? Now, patitānāṁ pāvanebhyo. A godly person’s business is to reclaim the fallen souls. They cannot see... A godly person sees that “Here is my brother. He is son of God. I am son of God. Without enlightenment, without knowledge of God, he is suffering. So, let me give him some knowledge of God.” This is godly person’s business. He has no other business.”

Dear Guru Mahārāja this is a description of you that I noticed from the first time I saw you —all your activities were for helping the conditioned souls. I noticed on some occasions people were not interested yet by your interaction with them it lifted them out of their moroseness, and they were smiling and sattvic happy within an hour.

I noticed your jovial mood is constant, because you are relishing the bliss/ joy which comes from taking shelter of the divine energy

I have been trying to give Kṛṣṇa to a person I have been cultivating for over 30 years. During those 30 years there was no perceivable result. I thought that I was failing but following your example I kept on in a friendly mood and just recently this person has started chanting the Hare Kṛṣṇa Mantra! He chants it using a small keyboard which sounds like a harmonium. He does it four days every week. I’ve encouraged him to chant everyday between ten minutes to one hour every day So I’m waiting to see what happens. I’m sure it will by Nitāi Gaura’s grace.

Guru Mahārāja, you are literally an ocean of mercy just giving, giving and giving with no limit—no end to everyone whether they are favorable or not and you do it with such charm that people’s hearts are affected

Seeing this example of yours I started cultivating a person who had no interest in Kṛṣṇa. He was against any religion. I found out the reason. He was from a religious culture. His ancestors were devotees of Lord Rāmacandra who had fought for the British in the First World War (1914-18).

When he was young man, he had a good friend who was ostensibly very religious. However, one day the friend disappeared along with a large some of money and no one was able to locate him. From that day forth he never trusted any one religious. He said he preferred dealing with “bad people” because you knew exactly what to expect from them. I understood his feeling because he was from a kṣatriya genealogical line and when you trust someone you trusted them with your life!

Still, Guru Mahārāja I followed your example of trying to find different ways of giving Kṛṣṇa in a friendly mood to this person and also not being attached to the result or difficulties. Ten years went by —no result; 20 years went by—no result; 30 years went by—no result; More years went by—no result; And then he died.

It seemed that all my efforts had failed!

But I found out later that many years before he died, he had told his grandsons to chant the Hare Kṛṣṇa mahā-mantra which they were doing seriously and at the time of him leaving his body one of them was right there in the hospital room chanting the mahā-mantra! What a result!

His grandsons continue to this day to chant the mahā-mantra seriously.

So, Guru Mahārāja you are an ocean of mercy and by your example you are training your disciples to be oceans of mercy and from the two examples I have recounted I can see why there cannot be a limit to how much we are prepared to give to get someone chanting the mahā-mantra. The result will be there but not how we expect after all we are servants, and the master (Nitāi Gaura) will control how the result will manifest.

Thank you! Guru Mahārāja, for being an ocean of mercy for us all. Never-ever giving up on anyone.

Your grateful disciple always,

Jaitra Dāsa (dīkṣā)
